Since 2004, Chopard has been cooperating with the Geneva School of Watchmaking (EHG), Switzerland’s oldest watchmaking school. To mark the 200th anniversary of EHG, the brand has introduced an interesting novelty. The L.U.C Heritage EHG Moon 122 is equipped with a basic mechanism developed in collaboration with students from the prestigious Geneva school.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Chopard released the first mechanism of its own production back in 1996. It was a 1.96 caliber, installed in the first L.U. watches from 1860. Since then, the company has created several dozen manufacturing mechanisms. One of them (calibre L.U.C 06.01-L) has been supplied by the brand to EHG final year students for more than 20 years in the form of a set of raw parts. So that they can refine it, decorate it and use it in their graduation watches.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The culmination of this collaboration was the calibre L.U.C 63.01-L, a large hand\u2013wound movement created jointly with EHG students in 2010. This caliber has been used in L.U. watches since 1963, released to mark the 50th anniversary of the purchase of Chopard by the Scheufele family. The mechanism of the novelty is based on this caliber.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The L.U.C 63.04-L calibre is equipped with a lunar phase indicator. The accuracy of the indicator is so high that the error between the actual trajectory of the Moon and the module in hours is only 57 seconds. This means that it will take only one time in 122 years and 45 days of operation to adjust the readings of the Lunnik for one day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The novelty received a Hunter case type case made of ethical rose gold. With a diameter of 44 mm, it is 12.7 mm thick. The upper surface of the case is polished to a mirror-like shine, which contrasts with the vertical satin finish of the middle part. The lugs are welded to the body. The polished crown is 8 mm in diameter and is decorated with the vintage Chopard logo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
![<\/picture><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nThe highlight of the model is the aventurine dial with a map of the constellations of the Northern Hemisphere. The golden disk of the Moon, minted and engraved by hand, is located at the 3 o’clock mark. On the contrary, there is a miniature globe located within the counter with a small second hand (view from the North Pole). The continents on it are gold, and the oceans are blue lacquer. The hands on the dial, including the second hand, are also made of gold.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/picture><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nIf we return to the characteristics of the mechanism, its dimensions are 38 x 6.7 mm. The finish is made according to all the rules of high watchmaking, hence the Geneva brand on the mechanism. Bridges and platinum made of nickel silver show hand-beveled and gilded edges. From another finishing decoration, you can see gilded inscriptions, Geneva waves and pearl grain. The mechanism is COSC certified and equipped with a stop function of the second hand. With a balanced frequency of 2.5 Hz, it provides a 60-hour power reserve.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/picture><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\nThe watch is available on a blue calfskin strap equipped with a folding clasp made of ethical rose gold.
