Achieving cult status in the world of watchmaking is not an easy task. However, this is exactly what Bulgari<\/strong> has achieved in a record ten years thanks to the bold modern Italian design and sophisticated Swiss mechanics Octo Finissimo<\/strong>. Naturally, Octo Finissimo is primarily an expression of style and class. Bulgari has declared itself a master of ultra-thin mechanisms, thanks to what the brand likes to call “La Estetica de la Meccanica”. This culminated in at least 8 world records in the production of ultrathin watches since 2014.<\/p>\n

Bulgari has unveiled two new versions of its ultra-thin luxury sports watches in an original combination of carbon fiber and gold. Following titanium, platinum, pink and yellow gold, ceramics and tantalum, the Octo Finissmo saga now unfolds in a lightweight anthracite carbon composite and rose gold. This highly unusual combination of materials and texture is not the first for Bulgari, which introduced its first carbon and gold series in 1993. This bold statement offers a new take on Octo chic with amazing contrasts.<\/p>\n

The company presents two carbon and gold models: Octo Finissimo Automatic<\/strong>(2017 record) and Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar<\/strong> (2021 record and Aiguille d’Or at the 2021 Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix).<\/p>\n

The first of the two new models is the Bulgari Octo Finissimo CarbonGold Automatic<\/strong>(ref. 103779), in which the new material configuration is applied to the standard model from the collection with three arrows. The carbon case of the watch with a diameter of 40 mm and a thickness of 6.9 mm is equipped with flat sapphire glasses above the dial and a screw-down back cover, and the rose gold crown with a black ceramic insert is located at 3 o’clock. The watch is equipped with a branded flat three-link bracelet, but now it is made of forged carbon fiber to match the case.<\/p>\n

The dial of the new Bulgari Octo Finissimo CarbonGold Automatic has the same design and layout as the other three-hand models from the collection, with elongated Arabic numerals marked “6” and “12” o’clock. The surface of the dial is made of forged carbon fiber and decorated with hands and hour markers with rose gold trim. Inside the forged carbon case is the same ultra-thin automatic movement Bulgari Caliber BVL 138, which operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and has a power reserve of 60 hours. While the BVL 138 calibre in the new CarbonGold version is functionally identical to what can be found in the standard stainless steel model, its upper plates and bridges, as well as the platinum microrotorium, have a rose gold finish matching the rest of the watch.<\/p>\n

High-tech anthracite textured carbon is offset by luxurious shades of gold. The crown is made of rose gold with a ceramic insert, and the indexes and hands are covered in gold. A gold plaque is fixed on the side of the case. Turning the watch over, you can see that the mechanisms of both models have bridges made of rose gold and a platinum microrotorium with a rose gold coating. The water resistance is 100 meters.<\/p>\n

The second watch is the Bulgari Octo Finissimo CarbonGold Perpetual Calendar (ref. 103778). The CarbonGold Perpetual Calendar case is slightly thicker than its counterpart, designed only for measuring time, has a diameter of 40 mm and a thickness of 7.6 mm; it is equipped with a pair of flat sapphire glasses mounted on both sides of the case, as well as a rose gold crown. The perpetual calendar version comes on a forged carbon bracelet with three links. The novelty’s water resistance is 30 meters. Three additional buttons are slightly recessed into the side of the case to facilitate the process of setting various calendar indicators.<\/p>\n

The Bulgari Octo Finissimo CarbonGold Perpetual Calendar<\/strong> dial has the same layout as previous editions of the model. The dark surface of the forged carbon has delicate rose gold arrows and markings, which ultimately create a surprisingly refined and elegant appearance. Inside the case is a Bulgari BVL 305 manufacturing mechanism with an automatic perpetual calendar, which operates at a frequency of 21,600 half-vibrations per hour (3 Hz), has a power reserve of 60 hours and is equipped with a retrograde date and leap year indicator.
