Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked in Yellow Gold

In the extensive line of anniversary watches presented by Audemars Piguet in honor of the 50th anniversary of the iconic Royal Oak model in 2022, one watch attracted special attention: Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked 16204ST. The modern geometric design, complemented by dynamic, powerful, smooth lines, skillfully conveys the essence of the classic skeletonized mechanism. At the first release, two versions were presented: a restrained and almost monophonic steel model and a spectacular version in rose gold. This year, the Le Brassu manufactory presents a yellow gold version that is as fascinating, original and impressive as its predecessors.

The Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked 39 mm 16204 series has the same style and size as the classic Jumbo 16202 watch with a closed dial, the case dimensions of which are 39 x 8.1 mm.

The new model has an 18-carat yellow gold case, which remains true to the aesthetic standards of the original 1972 model. The gold bracelet tapers smoothly, and the 39 mm diameter case demonstrates Audemars Piguet’s signature alternation of satin sanding and polished chamfers, creating an exciting play of light.

Elegant hour markers and hands made of polished white gold adorn the dial, echoing the hexagonal white gold screws securing the bezel and the intricate gear train visible through the delicate bridges. The precious stones of the mechanism are also visible on the side of the dial. Audemars Piguet’s long signature is elegantly printed in black on sapphire crystal.

The ultra-thin self-winding 7124 calibre organically combines precision, performance and the art of delicate work. This exceptionally thin movement, just 2.7mm thick, has been carefully designed and manufactured by Audemars Piguet engineers and watchmakers to fit into the 8.1mm thin Jumbo case without compromising its aesthetics and size. Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz, it has a power reserve of 57 hours. The large drum further enhances the accuracy of timing over a long period of time. In addition, it is equipped with a thin openwork rotor made of 22-carat rose gold with a yellow gold coating, mounted on ball bearings and equipped with self-designed reversers for a bidirectional factory. Expertly inserted inertia blocks into the balance wheel reduce friction and increase overall productivity.

The delicate design of the 7124 Calibre is proudly displayed on both the dial and the back cover. Achieving this effect required advanced technology combined with manual dexterity and meticulous attention to detail by experienced craftsmen. The position and geometry of each component have been carefully planned to achieve a harmonious and well-balanced openwork aesthetic. The preliminary geometry of the main plate and bridges has been precisely cut using CNC machines, and then carefully refined to achieve the desired shape. These components have been carefully finished in the tradition of fine watchmaking. The 247 polished V-shaped corners of the mechanism demonstrate the exacting craftsmanship of the manufactory’s craftsmen.

The Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin Openworked yellow gold model will be a permanent addition to the collection and will not be limited in production.
