F.P.Journe Chronometre a Resonance 2020

20 years after the launch of Chronomètre à Résonance, F.P.Journe presented a reconstruction of this model, one of the most symbolic works of the French maestro. F.P.Journe Chronomètre à Résonance uses physical natural resonance to enhance the accuracy and stability of the watch.

The mechanism has two balances, each of which alternately serves as an exciter and a resonator. When two balances are in motion, they come into harmony due to the phenomenon of resonance. Then both balances support each other, giving more inertia to the mechanism. This result is possible only if the frequency difference between them does not exceed 5 seconds per day accumulated at six positions. Installing them is an extremely delicate task.

Chronomètre à Résonance produces an effect that accelerates one of the balances as much as the other. Little by little, both balances return to each other to find their point of harmony, thereby eliminating interference and performing rhythmic synchronization.

The new Chronomètre à Résonance has only one balance spring to provide two mechanisms. The differential mounted on the first wheel and visible in the center of the dial independently transfers the energy of the balance spring in the direction of the two secondary gears. Each secondary gear is equipped with a Remontoir d’Egalité with a frequency of 1 second. Working in this way, the force gained from the descents remains linear and ensures isochrony for 28 hours.

The new Chronomètre à Résonance has an updated case with a crown located at 2 o’clock. The balance frequency of the mechanism is 21,600 pcs/hour, with a power reserve of 42 hours. The watch is presented in a 950 platinum or 18k rose gold case. The dial is silver with a Guilloche Clous de Paris pattern.

Chronomètre à Résonance by F.P.Journey comes with an alligator leather strap. The retail price for the gold model is 101,400 CHF, for the platinum model – 105,000 CHF.
